Can I dive with glasses or contact lenses?

You cannot wear normal glasses underneath a scuba mask because the arms of the glasses prevent the mask from making a proper seal around your face. A leaking mask is uncomfortable and can affect your enjoyment underwater.

Many divers are pleasantly surprised that their vision feels clearer underwater than expected. Because of the way light behaves underwater, objects often appear larger and closer. If your vision correction is small, you may find that you can dive comfortably with a standard mask.

If you need stronger vision correction, a prescription dive mask is usually the best option. At Max Divers, we can provide prescription mask lenses for purchase to match your required diopter. Please contact us before your trip with your prescription details so we can discuss the available options and help you choose the right lenses.

Contact lenses can also be an option for some divers. However, there is a small possibility of losing a lens if water enters the mask, so we recommend bringing spare lenses and discussing this with your eye-care professional if you have any concerns. Soft contact lenses are generally more practical than glasses for diving, but your comfort and eye health should always come first.

Good vision helps you enjoy the reefs, fish, and marine life of the Maldives, but it should never become a barrier to diving. We will help you find the most suitable option for a safe and enjoyable experience.
